Family - Day 6 - #WordADayChallenge

Today's word is Family

One of the first things that pops into my head when I think of this word is how much I treasure it. The second thing is how utterly complicated it can be.

I had a "normal" childhood. Well, not by today's standards, but I had both my parents and we actually did a lot of things together as a family. We had dinner at the table, went to movies, camped out at the lake, went on outings. It's a bond that we still share today. Even as we all have different lives and don't see each other on a daily or even weekly basis, when we do get together, it is usually like no time has passed at all. We talk and kid each other, talk over what we've been up to. It warm, it's familiar. I think it is our anchor in this storm of life. When things the waves are high and tossing us about and we can't find our footing, it is the people in our circle that anchor us, hold us fast until the storm subsides. They pick us up when we are knocked down.

I am fortunate not only in my own family, but also in my husband's family. It hasn't always been easy, but we have all grown and built a wonderful relationship that I know I can trust.

Family isn't always the ones related to us by blood. Sometimes those are the ones that betray us the worst. Family is the people we have come to know we can trust to be there, to love us, no matter what. Even when we are at our most unlovable.

I love my family. No matter where we are, my family is my home. At the end of the day, nothing else really matters. Everything else is just "stuff". As long as I have them, I have everything.
