We haven't been able to go camping in awhile, however we are into thunderstorm/tornado season and have already had a few power outages. Living in a rural area, we have to stay prepared and that means having working flashlights, power supplies and other necessities.
Durable flashlights are one of the most important things we can have for these situations, so when the opportunity to review this Orion Ultimate Survival Rechargeable LED Lantern
was presented, I was excited to see what it had to offer.
The Orion is a powerhouse in a small, lightweight package. It is only about 5 1/4 inches when in the compacted "off" position and about 3 1/2 inches wide. There are two folding metal handles that flip up to use and fold down to the sides when not in use. It has a slip resistant base as well.
It is really simple to operate. The top portion (above the Orion logo) slide up to reveal the lamp and once you install the batteries, when you slide it up, it is automatically on. When you slide it back down, it turns it off.
While it is opened, it automatically starts at the bright setting. Pressing the blue button on the front, dims it to the low setting. Pressing it again, changes it to solid red and pressing it a third time, makes it a flashing red.
The lamp is 360 degrees for an all around light without anything blocking it. The bright setting illuminates brightly, the low setting is more diffused for times when you just need a little light or don't want to disturb others. The red light and flashing light can be used signal others in an emergency.
The lantern comes ready to use right out of the package. It includes both the "AA" and two lithium ION rechargeable batteries. Simply pop in either set and you have light. A micro USB charging cable is also included for charging.
Besides being rechargeable, a feature that sets this lantern apart is that it also has a power bank for charging a cell phone, tablet or other handheld device. This can be a lifesaver if your phone battery is low or dies when you're camping, traveling or in an emergency.
