It is no secret that I love peppermint. I love everything about it. The scent, the flavor and the cooling effect on my skin. It calms me but it also invigorates and can energize me.

I received a bottle of this 100% Pure Peppermint Essential Oil from goPure Naturals to review and I simply love it. It can be used for so many different things!

Peppermint has been used for centuries in many parts of the world. It is indigenous to Europe and the Middle East, but is cultivated around the world. It is a hybrid of Watermint and Spearmint.

Peppermint grows quickly in most areas and prefers moist shaded area. Because it can grow so fast, it is considered invasive in many countries including the United States. It is usually grown in containers to restrict the spreading.

Peppermint is the oldest and most popular mint flavoring. The Greeks and Romans even used to crown themselves and adorn their table with it at their great feasts. It is used in teas, ice cream, confectionery,  chewing gum and toothpaste. Candy canes are one of the most popular and recognized uses of peppermint.

It is now also found in some shampoos, soaps and skin care products. The menthol in peppermint activates the cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin and mucosal tissues. This is the primary source of the cooling sensation that follows when you apply peppermint oil to your skin.
The menthol is also an antiseptic and anesthetic, lending to the medicinal uses of peppermint by many. It has been used for many ailments including irritable bowl syndrome, toothaches, indigestion, cramps, coughs, headaches, colds and many, many more.

Peppermint oil has a high concentration of natural pesticides and has been used to repel insects such as spiders and ants as well as rodents. I myself have been using peppermint oil on my duster when I dust my walls and ceilings and it has worked great for preventing spiders from building webs in the nooks and crannies and on the ceilings.

I use peppermint oil almost daily. I keep a bottle with water-diluted oil handy for everything from cleaning, odor control, aromatherapy and dusting. I am planning to order some lip balm tube so I can make my own blends of lip balm, another product I use every day.
